Having been around Renault Sport products for the previous three years with a pair of Megane 225 Cups and later as Technical Director for BPM Racing and their Super Endurance Clio 197 race car I'd quite fancied a capable and lightweight Clio of my own.
In mid November I got rid of my Impreza as it was far too heavy and under powered to be any use around a race circuit and started to develop a spec for a Renault Sport Clio.
The goals were simple. Low weight, decent power with good reliability and the application of some trick engineering to make sure it punched well above its weight.
A 172 Cup was the obvious base car due to it being the lightest of all the Renault Sport Clios.
